Our next 200-hour program begins November 15, 2024
Dedicated to a tradition of excellence in teaching for more than 40 years, the Himalayan Institute offers yoga teachers comprehensive and systematic training in classical yoga.
When you enroll in the Himalayan Institute’s 200-hour teacher training program, you don’t just train to become a teacher—you get the opportunity to participate in one of the most respected and comprehensive teacher training programs available. Our teachers have a wealth of experience – both in teaching hours and years of personal practice. Through their guidance, you will acquire the wisdom and knowledge to confidently interpret and convey the deeper meaning of yoga. Meet the faculty here.
Our 200-hour program includes instruction in asana (yoga postures), meditation, pranayama, relaxation techniques, therapeutic yoga, and yoga philosophy and psychology. Our teachings are passed down from the Living Tradition of the Himalayan Masters, and are rooted in the ancient yogic scriptures.
Our Approach to Yoga
The Himalayan Institute teaches classical hatha yoga blended with a modern understanding of anatomy, physiology and therapeutics. Our instructors are trained in the physical aspects of yoga practice which emphasize flexibility, strength and alignment while always bearing in mind that the true goal of yoga is something much more profound. Following our time tested method (we have been doing this for over forty years!), we lead our students deeper into working with the energy body (prana, chakras) and the mind. Our style is unique as asana (postures) is only a piece of what we practice and teach. A strong focus is also placed on learning to breathe, to relax, to focus the mind and to meditate. The Himalayan Institute’s approach to yoga and our teacher training program is a thoroughly holistic – body, mind, spirit practice.
What to Expect
As a Himalayan Institute graduate, you will gain the skills to teach multi-level asana classes and be well versed in stress management, relaxation techniques, ayurvedic lifestyle basics, and meditation for personal change. To be a powerful teacher, you need to have an experiential understanding of what you are teaching. Our dedicated faculty will create a space for your personal practice of yoga to deepen and expand throughout the training, having a solid practice is essential for teaching authentically and with integrity. You will be guided through the experimental aspects of teaching methodology and practice these skills in the classroom to ensure the greatest of efficacy with your verbal skills and physical presentation. The direct experience of yoga’s transformative effects will provide you with the knowledge and inspiration to guide and teach others for years to come.
