Prerequisite
Completion of a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training certification program (or greater).
Course Description
This 14-hour continuing education training is designed for yoga teachers seeking to expand their knowledge and teaching skills in restorative yoga and relaxation-based practices. The curriculum is an integration of yoga philosophy, restorative asana, calming pranayama, attentional techniques, and an overview of gross anatomy and that of the nervous system.
As a participant you will have time to examine the physiological and psychological effects of unmanaged and accumulated stress and its impact. To counter, abate, and reduce the ill effects of stress, relaxation techniques performed in movement and stillness that supports resilience and recovery are emphasized. The training also explores the role of mindful awareness, compassion-based interaction, and intentional sequencing in creating effective restorative yoga classes.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:
· Apply principles of restorative yoga to support nervous system regulation
· Demonstrate effective use of props and posture setup
· Integrate pranayama and mindfulness techniques into restorative sequencing
· Explain basic anatomical and physiological concepts related to relaxation and stress response
· Design and teach a balanced restorative yoga class with clear themes and objectives
· Utilize compassion-based language and trauma-aware approaches in instruction
Training Components
· Restorative asana: theory, alignment, and prop-based support
· Pranayama practices for relaxation and regulation
· Mindfulness and present-moment awareness techniques
· Functional anatomy and physiology of the stress response
· Sequencing methodologies for restorative classes
· Teaching methodology, including cueing, pacing, and class management
Assessment & Completion Requirements
Participants are expected to attend all training hours and actively participate in discussions and practice sessions. A certificate of completion will be issued upon full attendance.
