a legacy of love and selfless service
On Saturday, September 26, 2026, HIB held a memorial for our beloved teacher and friend, Rolf Sovik, with his wife, Mary Gail, in attendance. Memories flowed, bringing both tears and laughter. Rolf's wisdom, gentle heart, and humble nature have clearly left a lasting impact on all who knew him and studied with him.
For over two decades, Rolf and Mary Gail served as co-directors of the Buffalo center. Their dedication to selfless service and to the Tradition continues to inspire us and has shaped our home on Delaware Avenue into the living shrine that so many have come to love and call their spiritual home.
In recognition of their countless contributions and decades of service, we have dedicated our newly renovated library in their honor as the Sovik Memorial Library, a space of quiet reflection for all. Later this fall, we will begin hosting "watch parties" in the library featuring some of Rolf's classic videos, along with other opportunities to gather for study and practice.
You can watch the video remembrances from Rolf’s memorial here.
